We Chinese: Intensity of Superstorm Ragasa Likely Caused By Climate Change, Experts Say

Benjamin Horton, dean of the school of energy and environment at City University of Hong Kong, says the intensity of super typhoons like Ragasa — which killed 17 in Taiwan before causing severe flooding in parts of Hong Kong and the southern province of Guangdong — is due to a warming climate, which causes bigger, longer lasting storms that are more frequent, and move slower, delivering torrential rainfall as they sit over coastal cities instead of moving inland where they break apart like in previous decades.
