BEIJING (China Daily Show) – The bestselling computer game Grand Theft Auto V has been condemned as a “breathtaking indictment of cinema verite,” by the People’s Daily film critic, who hasn’t seen it.
“Chinese viewers will encounter a bleak world of lawlessness, gangsterism, corruption and complicity between government and capitalism,” revealed Deng Xue, “The like of which they will have never seen before.”
“This documentary exposes America as it really is: non-stop bullshit and ugliness,” the Daily’s tireless critic added.
It is as if an entire society has been allowed to behave with complete disregard for morality, without any overarching legal system to bind it together, the newspaper gasped.
The game has made nearly $800 million within 24 hours of its release, according to analysts.
“I urge every Chinese man under the age of 30, who has neither job nor girlfriend, to watch this film repeatedly – while smoking and eating instant noodles – until they collapse from disgust,” Deng fumed.
However, the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 systems remain banned on the mainland – as does GTA V – while China struggles to build its own domestic rival, dubbed the ‘Crapbox 88.’
