Chinese social media platform Weibo has banned several accounts for what it labeled as ‘inciting gender antagonism’, including an account which often highlighted examples of public sexual harassment and discussed the merits of feminism, another that drew attention to rape and domestic violence cases while taunting police for their inept handling of those criminal complaints, and one account which denounced feminism.
What do you think?
“They really brought balance to the Force by banning both pro-feminist accounts, and anti-feminist accounts.”
“In the Ming dynasty, dissenters were beaten with sticks. Today, they are beaten with ‘account unavailable’ messages. Talk about progress!”
“Authorities probably made the right move here. Afterall, domestic violence only creates a single victim, but a divided comments section could leave thousands or even millions upset.”
