After 183 years and five generations, 73-year-old Yau Yiu-wai said he had no choice but to close his family’s ancestral umbrella repair and sales business, Sun Rise Company, founded in 1842, lamenting that “the wheel of time rolled over me and crushed me beneath its weight,” apologising to his ancestors for ending the lineage, and urging customers to stay smart and eco-friendly as Hong Kong loses another traditional trade.
