BEIJING (China Daily Show) – Citing competing work commitments, various domestic chores and a debilitating round of social engagements, Beijing-based IT engineer Luke Bissell, 34, announced he had every intention of getting round to purchasing, then reading, a copy of a book about ‘leftover women,’ once he could find the available time.
“It’s a really big issue, obviously,” Bissell told reporters. “The book’s about women, and marriage, and sexism, and all that serious, important stuff… so yeah, this one’s definitely going on my to-do list.”
Citing the all-encompassing relevance of so-called leftover women to both male and female readers, Bissell continued: “We all have sisters, wives, daughters… actually, I’m single. But that’s not the point, is it? What I mean is, I honestly can’t wait to get stuck into this absorbing topic, just as soon as I get a break in my schedule.
“Trouble is, summer’s coming up – and you know what that means,” Bissell sighed. “There’s five-a-side, the World Cup, plus it’s blockbuster season. And I think the new Jack Reacher novel might be coming out in July. That’ll take me out of commission for a month or two, at least. Maybe more.”
Bissell was later overheard telling friends that, in recent months, he had, in fact, already waded through several lengthy articles on the subject and, really, what more was a guy supposed to do.
