The Chinese Communist Party newspaper, the People’s Daily, published an article on Friday warning that “blind box” toys—sealed packages containing one random item from a collectible series that rely on artificial scarcity—can be addictive for young people, leading to a 3.6% drop in the stock of Pop Mart, one of China’s largest blind box retailers, on fears that the government might move to regulate the market.
